Meet Your Teacher for September 2020

Normally we would be working with our new teachers in our transition weeks but due to the COVID-19 we can't do that this year but here is a message from your new teacher for September 2020

National Sunglasses Day - The children!

National Sunglasses Day is a commemorative date held annually on June 27 celebrating the importance of wearing shades to protect the eyes from the sun’s harsh ultraviolet (UV) rays. This year after the staff wore theirs the children were set the challenge to send in their photos to celebrate this day.

This video was created by the staff at school to highlight the need to take care of your eyes when out in the bright sunshine. The challenge was set to see if the children could wear their glasses!

#26 Tap Challenge

On the run up to the London Marathon charities publicised the fact that due it's cancellation they would lose some of the funds that they would normally raise at the event. As a result many people were giving challenges using the digits 2 and 6. This one was from the Ruth Strauss Foundation and was linked to a cricket challenge.

This week we would have been getting ready for sports day in school so lot's of children were practicing at home and getting involved in different science and creative work.

This week was all about animals, creatures, creativity and mysterious eggs! The children this week were finding out all about different animals and plants and even having a go at creating their own.

This week there has been a lot of work on Egyptians and some fantastic science experiments. The music is from our songwriters week and is "Sing" written by Gary Barlow for the 2012 Jubilee.

This is a collection of Photos and videos from week eleven of the temporary closure of schools that started on March 23rd 2020. This week has included Environmental Day and so a lot of work has been done about the environment and nature including origami frogs, mini beasts and a hedgehog on camera! Other work has included Rainbows and children developing their artistic skills and sketching spitfires. The music is from our Reggae week and is Baby I love Your Way by Big Mountain.

This week would have been the May Spring bank holidays so this weeks video features a lot of people in their pools enjoying the hot weather. This week saw the first day of the 70 days of lock-down when Ordsall had a day off. No one was booked in for the Bank Holiday Monday so the in school staff team had a day off. The music this week is Mr Blue Sky by The Electric Light Orchestra.

This week included Thank A teacher Day on May 20th and we had work on Golidilocks and the Three bears, electricity, lots of science and one of our children washed cars to raise money for the Bassetlaw Hospice. The song was from our One Hit Wonders Week and was Yazz and the Plastic Population with The Only Way is Up.......and it is.

This week saw work on Egyptians, electricity, environments and lots of gingerbread men. The music was from Onerepublic with Counting Stars which was one song from our top selling songs of the 2010s.

This was collection of Photos and videos from week seven of the temporary closure of schools that started on March 23rd 2020. This week saw year 4 work on Victorian inventions, model making, painting, paper aeroplanes and, of course, baking!! The song that goes with this video was from our Top Selling Female Solo Acts Week and was Madonna's "Hung Up" using a sample from ABBA.

VE Day Celebrations

On May 8th 2010 it was the 75th anniversary of VE Day. In school we made bunting, learnt about the end of the war and celebrated with a tea party, just like many people across the country. The children paid their respects to those who gave up their lives during World War 2.

This week we were heading to the end of April which had been a very hot month. The song that went with this was from our Air Guitar week in our 100 Songs to Make You feel Good - Bon Jovi, Livin' On A Prayer. It was the week that Captain Tom celebrated raising £30 million, a number 1 song and his 100th Birthday and we were moving towards the VE 75th Anniversary.

The song that went with this was from our Girl Groups week in our 100 Songs to Make You feel Good - Walk This Way by Girls Aloud and the Sugagbabes. It was the Queen's Birthday and by now schools had been closed for only 15 school days but for many it felt a lot longer.

Free Eggs were delivered and the song that went with this was from our Boy Bands week in our 100 Songs to Make You feel Good - Picture of You, Boyzone. It was a week of baking, rainbows and staying home and staying safe.

This week would have been the first week of the Easter holidays but the school was open every day including Bank Holidays. The song that went with this was from our "Together" week in our 100 Songs to Make You feel Good - Go West, The Pet Shop Boys. This marked another day in history.

This week would have been the last week before Easter and involved Egg Fun Day and visits to the church. The song that went with this was from our decades week in our 100 Songs to Make You feel Good - 1980s Rick Astley, Never Gonna Give You Up. It marks another moment in history as the unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic moved into the second week in the a temporary closure of schools.

It marked a moment in history, as the unprecedented COVID-19 Pandemic caused a temporary closure of schools across the UK.

Certificates of Appreciation

This video was created by the staff at Ordsall Primary school to Thank the children for all of their efforts during the "Lockdown". It included a certificate from the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, who is the Queen's representative in the County. The school hand delivered 538 certificates to the children and they posted messages to say how happy they were to get them.

The London Marathon

During this period major sporting events have been postponed or cancelled. The London Marathon was one such event so the staff decided to run their own marathon as a tribute to those who would have run the event in 2020. Our marathon features the staff "running" in front of 26 different London landmarks set to 3 different sporting themes from the 1970's and 80's. See if you can recognise any of the landmarks, name the staff that are "running" and the three sporting themes. Enjoy the challenge!

Rainbow Videos

Another week and more rainbows were created, the symbol of the NHS. We gave rainbows to Bassetlaw Hospital and Rotherham hospital and celebrated their "Magic".

Year 3 Egyptians Work

The children in Year 3 have been studying the Egyptians and this videos is collection of the work that they have done at home. It includes examples of artwork, hieroglyphics and some very creative ideas. Well done year 3.

Dinosaurs Video

There were many things on line for people to join in with and this one was learning how to draw a dinosaur with Rob Biddulph. We set it to the them from Jurassic Park just to give it that prehistoric feel.

It's A Jungle In Here!

This video is a compilation of pictures from a challenge that was set for the children. They had to use an i-phone or android phone to super impose the picture of a jungle animal in their home. It was great fun and everyone had a go not just for this but for a long time afterwards.

Thank you NHS!

During the lockdown every Thursday we "Clapped for Carers" and created rainbows of hope for those who worked in the NHS. This was a collection of our part in that. Music was provided by Eva Cassidy - Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

COVID-19 Bear Hunt

At this time we were all allowed out once a day to exercise and the idea of a Bear Hunt was founded. People were asked to put a bear in their window to emulate the Going On A Bear Hunt story. It meant that as we went for a walk we could all search for bears on the bear hunt and this shows Ordsall's contribution.
